Olympic Legacy Opportunities for Communities in 2012

Did you know that Sheffield is one of three cities in the UK to be singled out by the government in relation their Olympic Legacy Programme? The Olympic Legacy programme aims, as the name suggests is about making sure that after the 2012 Olymic Games, there is a lasting effect which can be felt by communities across the city over the next 20 years.  The Olympics provide us with a great opportunity to start to get people involved from all walks of life in physical activity that can be great fun, build community spirit and improve health and wellbeing across the city. You don't have to be an elite athelite to get involved.  The programme is designed for everyone to take part in and aims to bring about a cultural change across the city around healthy living and activity. There are three themes to the project.  They are:
  1. Workplace Wellness - encouraging health and wellbeing in the workplace
  2. Sporting Economy - building on the city's reputation as the city of sport to create enterprise opportunities
  3. Physical Actvity - encouraging communities and individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles and improve public health as a result
It's an exciting project that we at Woodthorpe Development Trust are involved in and are looking to work in partnership with other communitiy organisations in the area in order to see delivered.More information is likely to follow, so we will keep you posted on this.  For more information your can drop me a line at colin@woodthorpedt.co.uk.
