Older people's Christmas Lunch

Woodthorpe Development Trust organised its first ever Christmas Lunch for local older people this year held at Woodthorpe Tenant’s and Residents Association. The luncheon which was funded by a combination of a donation from Woodthorpe TARA and funding raised from a Tombola and a Christmas Grotto at Woodthorpe School’s Xmas Fayre was put on free for older people from across the area.

Managers and staff from  Woodthorpe Development Trust gave up their time to cook, serve food and wash up at the event. Around 50 local people benefitted from the meal with free transport being provided to ensure that everyone that wanted to attend could do so.

Young people who are involved with the UR Choice or No Choice Project,  a Home Office funded anti gangs, guns and knives initiative assisted our staff in serving food and drinks to the people at the lunch. The young people were really excited before the event and felt proud afterwards about being positively involved helping older people in the community.

"We are hoping to repeat the event next year if we can raise the funds as we see the importance events like this are for older members of our community. Many people are quite isolated and often don't get opportunities to engage with other people and especially the younger generation".
